Jesus often spoke in parables or stories to explain the kingdom of God to His followers. He used familiar objects and scenarios to help his listeners understand what He was teaching. In the gospel of Matthew, chapter 13, verses 31-32, He told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches.” The smallest of seeds can grow into a large tree, just as the gospel message started with a small few and has reached millions of people.
